Tragedy struck at the weekend in Aba, Abia State, as one
of the bales of second-hand clothes popularly known as okirika, being conveyed by a cargo truck fell off and killed a woman.
It was
gathered that the truck was conveying the bales of used clothes from a
warehouse in the city to Ngwa Road market when the incident occurred.
According to
sources, the driver, identified as Ogbonnaya, was negotiating a bend into the
market through one of its entrances, when the bale fell off the truck and hit
the woman.
The victim,
whose identity could not be ascertained immediately and was said to have come
to the market to make some purchases died on the spot.
A source
said: “Nobody knew who she was when the incident occurred, but since she was
not identified as one of the traders in the market, it means she could be one
of those who came to that section of the market to buy second-hand clothes in
commercial quantity.”
