#NEWS : TRAGEDY BEFALLS ABIA STATE (ABA)

Tragedy struck at the weekend in Aba, Abia State, as one of the bales of second-hand clothes popularly known as okirika, being conveyed by a cargo truck fell off and killed a woman.

It was gathered that the truck was conveying the bales of used clothes from a warehouse in the city to Ngwa Road market when the incident occurred.

According to sources, the driver, identified as Ogbonnaya, was negotiating a bend into the market through one of its entrances, when the bale fell off the truck and hit the woman.

The victim, whose identity could not be ascertained immediately and was said to have come to the market to make some purchases died on the spot.

A source said: “Nobody knew who she was when the incident occurred, but since she was not identified as one of the traders in the market, it means she could be one of those who came to that section of the market to buy second-hand clothes in commercial quantity.”

The body of the victim was later deposited at an undisclosed mortuary, while the truck driver was arrested by policemen from Ndiegoro Police Division. The state command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna, could not be reached for comments, but a senior police officer confirmed the incident and said the police had commenced investigations
