Dre — the
self-proclaimed first billionaire of hip-hop — is celebrating Apple’s bid to
buy Beats Electronics by picking up Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady’s sprawling,
$50 million mansion in California, Page Six has learned.
Apple is
said to be acquiring Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion, and while the deal has
yet to be formally confirmed, Dre has been busy looking for a new mansion fit
for a mogul.
Sources tell
us that Dre has made an offer near the $50 million asking price for Bundchen
and Brady’s palatial pad in Brentwood. The 14,000-square-foot mega-mansion, featured
in Architectural Digest, boasts six bedrooms, a library, a state-of-the-art
gym, infinity pool, waterfall and even a moat. No word on the sound system, but
Dre will be sure to have his own put in place.
A source
tells us, “Dre put an offer on the mansion as soon as it came on the market,
and is a few weeks away from closing.” It was not clear if Dre would
immediately put his current mansion in the Hollywood Hills on the market.
As news of
Apple’s move to acquire Beats emerged late Thursday, a Facebook video —
uploaded by actor Tyrese Gibson and featuring Dre — suggested
the deal was done.
In the clip,
actor Gibson — known for his roles in the “Fast & Furious” and
“Transformers” franchises — congratulates Dre, the CEO of Beats and a
co-founder with Jimmy Iovine, on the acquisition.
Gibson jokes
about the Forbes list, which ranked Dre the second-wealthiest hip-hop artist of
2014 with an estimated wealth of $550 million, saying, “They need to update the
Forbes list. S–t just changed.”
Dre adds,
“The first billionaire in hip-hop, right here from the motherf–king West
Coast.” The video has since been pulled from Gibson’s Facebook page.
The title of
richest man in hip-hop, according to Forbes, currently belongs to Sean “Puff
Daddy” Combs, who the magazine says is worth $700 million. Jay Z is in third
place with $520 million.
